Sojourner is powered by the creative energy
of Marlene Rice (violin),
Judith Insell (viola), and Nioka Workman
(cello). Each member brings to the group a vast knowledge of many musical styles, enabling Sojourner to present a unique
form of "chamber jazz” for strings. All three members of Sojourner are accomplished composers/arrangers,
specializing in expanding the string jazz repertoire. World-renowned
bassists Kenny Davis, Darryl Hall, Brad Jones, Steve Kirby, Calvin Jones, Nikki Parrott, Kim Clarke, Miriam Sullivan, and
Marc Schmied have all joined the ensemble on numerous occasions, rounding out Sojourner’s sound with their unique flair
for jazz. Sojourner has appeared as featured strings
at The Village Vanguard, Joe's Pub, The Knitting Factory, The Kitchen and various jazz venues around the United States.
